Goal 4 - Promote and model digital citizenship and Christian discipleship within the context of the digital age

As an educator, it is important that I model appropriate use of digital tools, and teach students the skills and etiquette necessary to use them. With the skyrocketing use of the Internet, information has become readily available, and with the growing popularity of social networking sites, connecting with others has become easier than ever before. Therefore, it is critical that students learn how to use this information and technology safely, legally, ethically, and competently. It is also significant to note that when it comes to technology, equal access is not for all. This means that not all students come with the same technological experiences. Although today’s students are known as digital natives, they don’t all have the competence that their label suggests, which is all the more reason that modeling proper use is necessary.

I feel confident with my abilities to carry out the tasks suggested by this goal. From my research on digital natives, I understand that in order to develop digitally literate and responsible students, they must have access to technology, as well as skilled instructors to teach them appropriate use and foster their creativity when using these tools. Although my skills at the knowledge level are strong because I have learned many ways to guide students in the digital world, I would like to continue to develop my abilities within the application and leadership areas of this program goal post graduation.
